Canbulat Museum
The Canbulat Museum is a historic tomb made of cut stone, located beneath the Arsenal Bastion in Famagusta, dating back to the Venetian period and surrounded by iron railings. The original tomb, where Canbulat Bey was martyred, was located under the bastion but was rebuilt in 1968 with Italian marble as it had fallen into disrepair. Canbulat Bey heroically attacked the revolving cannon trap while trying to defend the bastion during the Ottoman siege of Famagusta, rendering it unusable and sacrificing his life. After the conquest, his tomb was constructed beneath the bastion from stone.
In the recent past, it was believed that women who ate the fruits of the fig tree beside the tomb would give birth to sons as strong as Canbulat. Today, the tomb serves as a museum, exhibiting archaeological finds and Ottoman-era artifacts. Key items in the collection include weapons, plates, wall tiles, and the wooden tomb inscription of Kutup Osman. The museum is temporarily closed.
