Cyprus Turkish History and National Struggle Museum
The Cyprus Turkish History and National Struggle Museum, which opened to visitors in 1982, reflects the struggle for existence of the Turkish Cypriots between 1963 and 1974. The museum aims to convey the spirit of this period through photographs, documents, and various objects that document the political, social, and military events of the era. The displayed materials represent both the resistance of the Turkish Cypriot people and a cultural heritage dedicated to preserving collective memory.
One of the museum’s most striking artifacts is the boat used by Rauf Raif Denktaş and his fellow activists to secretly reach the island. This boat stands as a powerful symbol of both the determination of the Turkish Cypriot leadership and the difficult conditions of the time. Through such exhibits, the museum presents significant moments of the Turkish Cypriot national struggle in a tangible way to its visitors. Museum hosts statues of more than 20 individuals who played important roles in the Turkish Cypriots’ struggle for existence.
